Dot-CC domain names are now available in Chinese, Japanese and Korean. By year-end, eNic plans to add such languages as Thai and Tamil.
The program was developed in cooperation with Silicon Valley-based i-DNS.net, a provider of multi-lingual internet technologies and solutions. i-DNS, which is inter-operable with the current Domain Name System (DNS), is built upon Unicode and currently supports more than 55 languages.
According to eNIC Chairman and CEO Brian Cartmell, eNIC chose to use i-DNS technology because it does not require the end user to download special software.
"This development makes our products widely accessible and convenient to millions of non-English speaking Internet users. We also believe that the technology most closely represents the standard being adopted in the industry for multi-lingual domain name character sets," says Cartmell.
According to eNIC Director of Business Development Matthew Guiste, .cc is rapidly becoming the universal domain name, and the company especially projects significant growth in the Asia Pacific region.
"Adding the ability for users to enter domain names in their native language is an essential element in making that growth a reality," says Guiste.
