Taiwan, Lian He Xin Wen Wang, 3 December 1999 -- TimeNet yesterday launched the registration for Chinese Domain Name Space, providing registration for global Chinese domain names in Taiwan. As long as companies registered their Chinese domain names, users will be connected to the companies' websites by typing in the Chinese domain names over Internet browsers. There is no need for additional software or procedures, it is exactly the same as typing English domain names.

TimeNet stressed that in the past, users have to memorize long and difficult chains of English domain names in order to connect to websites. But essentially these domain names are often very different from the companies' actual Chinese names, leading to confusion when surfing the Web.

TimeNet has been appointed by Singapore's i-DNS.net International as registrar for its Internationalized Domain Name System (i-DNS), starting registration for global Chinese domain name space within the '.com' domain. The Chinese Domain Name System is a global service which incorporates both the simplified and traditional forms of the Chinese character. Therefore, a global Chinese domain name can only be registered once, and will not be duplicated.
