US Company developed new technology to enable Japanese Internet Address

Online, Mycom Online, 11 May 2000 -- i-DNS.net International has announced that the California-based venture business would launch a new service in Japan by the end of this month that will allow for domain name registrations in the Japanese language. Domain names refer to addresses over the Internet.

The company will offer companies and organizations new domain names using Japanese-language corporate and product names for advertising and other purposes, as these names will look intuitively familiar to Japanese consumers. This will make it much easier for consumers to use Internet services. i-DNS.net will also establish a Japanese corporation in the near future. The company will form an alliance with ASCII Corporation, Crayfish Corporation, and InterQ Corporation, who each currently provide English domain name registration services, to offer three types of Japanese-language domain names with suffixes of ". Kai-sha," ". So-shi-ki," and ".Netto." Each domain name registered will be charged 10,000 for a two-year maintenance period. The company's goal is to obtain 100,000 new Japanese domain name registrations in the initial year of service. Domain names using combinations of Japanese with English characters are already available but i-DNS.net is the first company that provides a Japanese-only domain registration service.

The i-DNS.net technology allows companies to use all Japanese characters, including kanji, hiragana and katakana, when registering their domain names. A newspaper company called Nihon Shimbun, for example, will now be able to register a domain name of "Nihon shimbun. Kai-sha" in Japanese instead of "nihonshimbun.com." This will eliminate the need for Japanese consumers to enter Internet addresses in English and use search services, allowing them to reach Web sites they want to visit more quickly. However, you will need an exclusive software application installed on your PC to use this service. The software will be distributed by a new joint venture established by i-DNS.net and a business partner on a gratuitous basis, either through a downloading service over its Web site or in the form of CD-ROMs inserted into key magazines.
