The first Telugu domain name was formally launched by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu. The Telugu domain names are part of the multi-lingual internationalised domain names system developed by i-DNS.net International.
According to the i-DNS.net Vice President, Prof. S. Subbiah, the technology integrates seamlessly with existing standard Internet software protocols. "It is fully compatible with commonly used Internet browsers and fully inter-operable with the existing domain name system,"he told presspersons.
While the i-DNS technology is capable of supporting over 200 different languages, it currently supports about 50 languages. These languages include Arabic, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, Thai and Yiddish. Prof. Subbiah said i-DNS.net has appointed SynfoSys as its Registrar partner and eNamaskar.com would be responsible for the packaging, promotion and registration of Telugu domain names. The Synfosys Director, Ms. Pranathi Reddy Sana, said eNamaskar.com offers domain name registrations in seven Telugu domain categories corresponding to the seven in English -- .com (vANij), .net (jAla), .org (saM), .gov (shyasana), .edu (vid), .per (manu) and .mil (sEna).
