i-DNS.net Announces Cultural Awareness Initiative
Helps Bridge Digital Divide By Providing Internationalized Domain Names

General, i-DNS.net International, 17 September 2001 -- i-DNS.net International, the leading Multilingual Internet Solutions provider, today reaffirmed its commitment to bringing the Internet to the peoples of the world by announcing the Cultural Awareness Initiative. Under the Cultural Awareness Initiative, i-DNS.net, in conjunction with its global network of registar partners, will donate multilingual domain names to global and regionally focused non-profit organizations.

i-DNS.net’s corporate mission is to enable all non-English speaking consumers and businesses to enter the Internet economy on their own terms and in their own languages. i-DNS.net seeks to bridge the digital divide that has resulted from language barriers on the Internet by deploying its multilingual technology worldwide and championing the use of multilingual domain names globally.

Recognizing that in order for the multilingual Internet to become a truly global medium for communications and commerce, it must also involve organizations involved in humanitarian efforts, i-DNS.net created the Cultural Awareness Initiative to help these organizations more efficiently reach non english speaking audiences.

“We see the cultural awareness initiative as a means of helping non profit assistance organizations reach their target constituency in their own language,” said Michael Ng, CEO of i-DNS.net “We’re eliminating another barrier to information access for people who arguably need the information the most.”

i-DNS.net, Universal-Names (an i-DNS.net regional registrar), and Planet Earth Foundation, the award-winning non-profit service media agency set up to raise awareness on subjects of public interest, today announced that Planet Earth will utilize i-DNS.net’s internationalized domain names to extend their reach to internet users worldwide.

Having recognized the value of these names in promoting easy recall and intuitive use amongst non-English Internet users, Planet Earth Foundation will be establishing internationalized versions of its website, each accessible via a multilingual domain name keyed and displayed entirely in Chinese, Korean, Hebrew or Arabic. To facilitate proper resolution of these sites, i-DNS.net’s iClientTM will also be available for free download off the Foundation’s websites.

"Our clients expect the highest level of quality and outreach when they come to us with media projects,” stated Keith Blume, Founder and President of Planet Earth Foundation. “The availability of these domain names in native languages is key for us to effectively reach our respective audiences and advance the global education and awareness of important issues.”

i-DNS.net is the provider of the Internationalized Domain Name System (i-DNS), the groundbreaking technology that enables multilingual domain names to be used on the Internet. Currently supporting more than 59 languages, i-DNS internationalizes and updates the existing Domain Name System (DNS) while retaining full backward-compatibility with all existing Internet standards and protocols.

“We are very excited to assist Planet Earth Foundation in promoting the humanitarian education and understanding their projects create,” said Trent Peterson, Director of Global Programs, i-DNS.net “One of i-DNS.net’s primary goals has been to foster global communications by bringing previously unavailable or difficult to find information to a truly global audience. Expanding the accessibility of Planet Earth Foundation’s critically acclaimed work via internationalized domain addresses is clearly in line with that goal.”

Non profit agencies interested in obtaining international versions of their domain names should contact i-DNS.net directly at CAI@i-dns.net. i-DNS.net will assist in locating a regional registrar to provide registration and activation of of the domain name.
