The World Wide Web Now Accessible To The Telugu Speaking Population
i-DNS.net International launches Internet domain names in Telugu

General, i-DNS.net International, 30 May 2000 -- Following the success of its Tamil launch in Chennai earlier this year, i-DNS.net International, the leading global provider of multilingual Internet solutions and pioneer of the Internationalized Domain Name System (i-DNS) technology, today announced the launch and immediate availability of multilingual domain name registration services in Telugu. Graced by the Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr Chandrababu Naidu, the launch commemorates easier Internet accessibility for the world's Telugu-speaking population.

Previously, domain names could only be registered in English. With i-DNS technology, it will now be possible for users to register websites in multiple languages using local scripts like Telugu and Tamil.

Currently, i-DNS technology supports domain names in 55 non-English languages - including Telugu, Tamil, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, German, French, Arabic, Thai, Hebrew and Yiddish. It is fully compatible with commonly used Internet browsers and inter-operable with the current Domain Name System (DNS). i-DNS technology is already benefiting users around the globe in countries like India, USA, Japan, Egypt, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

"With over 68 percent of the world population being non-native English speakers, i-DNS.net seeks to bridges the gap that has previously hindered Internet access by such users," said Prof S. Subbiah, founder of i-DNS.net International.

"We are proud to make the Internet an even more accessible resource for the people of Andhra Pradesh, a state renown for its advancements in Information Technology," said Mr Maniam, Business Development Manager of i-DNS.net International.

Backed by General Atlantic Partners LLC - a global player in the IT investment business, i-DNS.net seeks collaboration with global connectivity providers and local partners to develop, market and promote its products. To this end, it has appointed Synfosys Business Solutions Ltd as its Registrar Partner for the state of Andhra Pradesh. Synfosis will be responsible for the packaging, promotion and registration of Telugu domain names.

i-DNS.net is currently in close consultation with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), a division of India's Ministry of Information and Technology, to develop Indian linguistic, encoding and technical standards. The company will continue to collaborate closely with government ministries, local Internet authorities, Internet Service Providers, and Internet Content Providers to decide how best to deploy this key enabling technology to the populace.
