China’s Largest ICANN-Accredited Registrar To Offer Multilingual Domain Names
Agreement between Online NIC Inc. & i-DNS.net International Inc. Reached

General, i-DNS.net International, 25 September 2000 -- The world’s leading multilingual Internet technologies solutions provider, i-DNS.net International Inc. (i-DNS.net), today announced that Online NIC (external registrar arm of Xiamen-based China-Channel) will adopt and deploy its Internationalized Domain Name System (i-DNS) to enable registration of top level Chinese domain names (TLDs) ending with .COM, .NET and .ORG.

This effectively makes Online NIC the first ICANN-accredited Registrar to take up the service offering jointly developed and promoted by i-DNS.net and NSI Registry (now known as Verisign Global Registry Services - the leading provider of Internet locator services and exclusive registry services provider to .com, .net, and .org).

Registrations for Chinese TLD names will open later this month and a full operational launch is scheduled in October after technology certification with Verisign Global Registry Services (formerly known as Network Solutions Inc) is concluded with technical support from i-DNS.net.

"The advent of Chinese TLD names will revolutionize the marketing operations of Chinese companies worldwide by eliminating the language barrier within the Internet," said Mr Gong Shaohui, Director for China Channel. "We are proud to take the first step towards Chinese domain names, and expect to achieve tremendous success from this initiative."

"Without a doubt, the Internet represents one of the most inclusive information repositories ever developed. Companies and markets wishing to create a significant global presence cannot afford to neglect their Web presence," said i-DNS.net CEO Mr Michael Ng. "With approximately 68 per cent of the world’s population not using English as their primary language, multilingual domain names will reinforce familiar brand presence online, facilitate intuitive use of the Internet and encourage the true globalization of the medium."

Backed by US-based General Atlantic Partners LLC, i-DNS.net has pioneered a full suite of solutions designed to create a multilingual Internet accessible to everyone, everywhere. Unlike the current English-centric network, i-DNS eliminates the need to use English characters on the URL bar.

i-DNS.net partners Verisign Global Registry Services (the exclusive registry for .com, .net and .org TLD names worldwide), Melbourne IT (the world’s second largest domain names registry) eNIC Corporation and dotTV Corporation (both international ccTLD administrators), in the promotion and deployment of its multilingual domain name technology worldwide.
