Dot-Mlsr Domains

General, PC World, November 2000 -- The Information Decision Support Center (IDSC) will soon accept domain-name registrations for the Arabic version of .eg (.mlsr). The technology, provided by i-DNS allows users to type Arabic domain names into their browsers. Egypt is the first country in the Middle East to use Arabic Web addresses.

The Arabic addresses don't replace the English ones; sites will have both names.

"With the option to use English and Arabic, everyone and anyone will be able to draw from the incredible storehouse of knowledge and information that exists on the Internet," said Wael Nasr, Middle East director of Business Development at i-DNS. The .mlsr follows the top-level domains of .com, .net and .org in Arabic, which was introduced in Egypt in May.
