i-DNS is a new technology jointly developed locally by Asia Pacific Networking Group, Internet Research Centre National University of Singapore and BioInformatrix, a local which company developed Internet, with the purpose of breaking down language barriers and promoting the development of E-Commerce.

The newly set-up I-DNS.net has secured an initial investment of US$4 million (S$6.8million) from General Atlantic Partners, to develop a multi-lingual Domain Name System and E-mail-ids . In a nutshell, International Domain Name System is a Domain Name System that enables web users to own Domain Names in multiple languages. To date, i-DNS is able to support 32 different languages, among which include Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, French, Tamil, German and Spanish. i-DNS.net Director and Chairman Michael Ng said according to statistical sources, there are currently as many as 12 million registered English Domain Names, if one Domain Name . The company hopes to receive 1 million applications for registration of Domain Name in the next 18 months, and to be listed in a couple of years' time.
i-DNs.net chief technical officer James Seng said, most mother languages in the world are not English, International Domain Name System will narrow the gap between common people and the web, encouraging those who are unfamiliar with the English language to surf the Internet.
