e-Lux Corporation launches ejapanDNS
Company sees significant demand for new domain names in Japan

Japan, e-Lux Corporation, 17 May 2001 -- e-Lux Corporation (6811), a provider of worldwide billing services for digital transactions headquartered in Tokyo, today launched a new domain name registration service, ejapanDNS Corporation (www.ejapandns.co.jp), together with a portfolio of new domain names with a specific relevance for the Japanese market.

The launch of ejapanDNS marks the successful completion of management’s strategy to radically broaden the revenue base of e-Lux, formerly known for its high-end audio manufacturing business.

Under a multi-year agreement between e-Lux Corporation and i-DNS.net International, headquartered in Palo Alto, California, ejapanDNS will offer domain name prefixes and suffixes in Japanese, making navigation of the Internet intuitive for Japanese users.

e-Lux Corporation has also entered into an agreement with Sterling Holdings for ejapanDNS to be the exclusive source in Japan for web addresses ending in .EC, .AI and .LA. ‘EC’ is the widely used abbreviation for e-commerce, while .AI and .LA are the first domains specifically targeted at the Japanese consumer market.

“Early mover advantage in the fully Japanese domain name sector, combined with Japanese exclusivity on the new domains .EC, .AI and .LA, offer ejapanDNS and e-Lux the potential of significant and recurring income streams,” said Edward Milward-Oliver, President of e-Lux Corporation. “Having several proprietary products differentiates us from the rest of the market, and allows us to have greater control of our margins.”

The move into domain name services is in response to significant demand for new domain names in Japan. e-Lux Corporation estimates the total domain name market in Japan will be worth in excess of 215 billion yen over the next four years. High demand is being driven by the introduction of multilingual domain names, a greater use of domain names in online branding and trademark protection by Japanese companies, and the significant growth of the e-commerce sector.

“The rapid growth in Internet penetration is creating an exponential demand for Internet addresses in Japan. A significant opportunity exists for strongly branded, ‘virgin’ domains offering multilingual addresses with no restrictive registration policies,” said Takehito Shimomura, Chief Operating Officer of ejapanDNS.

The new Japanese suffixes are available immediately, with registration for the other domains being phased in over the coming weeks.
