Registration of Japanese suffixes and prefixes will be during the second quarter of this year through e-Lux's domain name subsidiary eJapan DNS, and will simplify online browsing, branding, and improve trademark protection and e-commerce opportunities for Japanese companies.
E-Lux said it estimated the total market for Japanese domain name registration will be worth 180 billion yen (US$1.454 billion) over the next three years, and that domain name registration in Asia grew at 78% last year.
"This new Japanese domain name service, combined with eJapan DNS's exclusive portfolio of domain names to be announced shortly, give the company a unique competitive advantage in addressing the industry in Japan," said eJapan DNS's chief operating officer Takehito Shimomura.
E-Lux president Edward Milward-Oliver was similarly enthusiastic: "I-DNS.net's multilingual domain name technology now enables Japanese corporations to fully extend their branding online, and makes navigation of the Internet intuitive for Japanese users."
"In future, we will consider introducing new generic Japanese suffixes after consultation with companies and Internet users, so we can continue to meet the requirements of Japan's market," he added.
