First Hebrew Domain Name Will Be Inaugurated Tomorrow

Online, israel.com, 25 December 2000 -- The Israeli Company Domain The Net will announce tomorrow the opening to the public of Internet addresses (domain names) registration in Hebrew language. The launch will be officiated by The Minister of Communications Mr. Benjamin Ben-Eliezer who will inaugurate the first Hebrew domain name - "Israel.com" (in Hebrew characters).

The innovation enables one to register an Internet domain name using Hebrew characters, and not only English characters as practiced until now. The technology developed by i-DNS for this purpose supports more than 59 different languages, and doesn't modify the Internet operation modes.

The entire domain name will be registered in Hebrew, with the Hebrew termination ".com", ".net", and ".org" (in Hebrew characters). The domain name in Hebrew will work like any English one, by clicking the domain name in the browser will perform the transition to the correspondent website. i-DNS.net with headquarters in the US and in Singapore, developed the technology to register domain names in different languages around the world and manages a system for registering such domain names worldwide. The company signed an exclusive agreement to manage the roster of domain names in Hebrew with the Israeli, Domain The Net.

In addition to the Hebrew terminations it will be possible to register domain names in Hebrew characters with the English termination "nu" ( shortcut for "new"). This termination is managed by the Worldnames Inc., with which Domain The Net also signed an exclusive agreement.

Domain The Net has the intention to open a service in Israel to register Internet domain names in Hebrew and in Russian.

In addition to its partnership with Domain The Net, i-DNS has similar partnership agreements with companies that supply the service in the US, China, Japan, India Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Egypt in more than 30 languages.

Domain The Net was established in July 2000 by three founders: Yoav Keren , economist and, former senior consultant to the minister Haim Ramon; David Fridman former marketing manager of Internet Bezeq International , and Yuval Zentkeren, software developer and attorney. The Company raised its initial undisclosed amount capital, from private investors.

The basic principle behind the idea to develop multi-language domain names technology was to eliminate the last language barrier that prevented many groups of the local population from using the Internet. From now on, the Internet will be more accessible and will enable the simple use of the local language in each country.
