HKNet yesterday launched its Chinese domain name registration service, in collaboration with i-DNS.net International.
Charles Mok said , i-DNS.net will be providing the technical support, while HKNet will promote the service. The company hopes to register its current client-base, as well as over 27000 small to medium enterprises.
This technology supports both the Chinese Big5 and the Chinese GB encoding systems. HKNet is also working with i-DNS on curbing cybersquatting.
Mok added that for every Chinese domain name, registration is at HK$960 for the first two years, and a handling fee of HK$500, subsequently the charge is HK$480 per year. The company will be providing domain names in other languages in the future. He is hopeful of attracting more than 10000 registrations by users in the first year.
Mok also announced that HKNet's Digital Centre in Tsuen Wan, with a total area of 30000 to 50000 sq ft, will be starting construction at the end of the first quarter. He claimed that the company now has a base of 26000 Internet users, of which 8000 are corporate clients.
