HKNet Launched Multilingual Domain Name

Hong Kong, HK Commercial Daily, 14 January 2000 -- CCT Telecom Holdings' HKNet yesterday announced its strategic partnership with i-DNS.net International, a company engaged in Internationalized Domain Name System (i-DNS) operations which makes use of global domain name technology, to launch multilingual domain names on the Web.

Making use of this technology, HKNet will launch Chinese domain name registration in Hong Kong from today. Registration for each domain name is at HK$960 for the first two years, with a handling fee of HK$500, and subsequently the charge is HK$480 per year there after.

i-DNS technology was developed by Asia Pacific Networking Group (APNG) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) over two years of research work. i-DNS, which is providing the registration service, has a domain database which supports common domain types such as '.com', '.org' and '.net', that are rendered in various languages.
