Breakthrough Innovation by i-DNS.net in the Georgian Language Internet
Batumi, Georgia, 26 May 2003

General, i-DNS.net International, 26 May 2003 --

Batuminet Inc., one of the largest Internet Service Provider in Georgia has announced the launch of a new service the registration of Internet Domain Names that are completely in the Georgian language and ending with the Top-Level Domain (TLD) extensions in .კომ, .ნეტ and .ორგ in the Georgian Cyrillic script. The novel technology allows the Georgian Internet community to use symbols in the Georgian alphabet for the registration of Georgian domain name addresses ending in .კომ (meaning "commercial enterprises" in the Georgian language), .ნეტ (meaning "Internet companies" in the Georgian language), .ორგ (meaning "organizations" in the Georgian language ).

This technology has been introduced in Georgia by Batuminet in partnership with i-DNS.net International Pte. Ltd., the pioneer of multilingual domain names that created the Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs). IDNs were commercially deployed since 1999 by i-DNS.net and has since been introduced in in over 60 languages and used by millions of Internet end-users across the globe. The IDN technology, originally developed at the National University of Singapore, was refined by Singapore-based i-DNS.net in response to market-driven demands for a native-language complement to the existing ASCII/Latin Domain Name System. Now, Georgian providers of Internet resources will able to use Georgian alphabet symbols for the domain names they register in addition to or instead of the ASCII/Latin alphabet symbols.

The technology is based on the Internationalized Domain Names System developed by the i-DNS.net International. The company’s goal is to sup, in response to market ort development of the internationalized Internet-addresses in 59 languages. The innovative technology enables the Internet users to utilize Georgian alphabet symbols for the registration of their own net addresses ending in .კომ (commercial enterprises), .ნეტ (Internet companies), .ორგ (organizations).

These new Georgian language Domain Names may be registered at the web-site www.georgian-domains.com, operated by Batuminet.

Together, Batuminet and i-DNS.net are proud to enable Georgian- speaking Internet users for the first time to overcome language barriers in the Internet and are confident that this will have a profound social effect amongst of the peoples of Georgia.
