For the first time: Domain names on the Internet in Arabic language.

Egypt, Al Alam El Youm, 27 August 2000 -- The Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center will be provided with a multilingual technology which enables the registration of domain names (addresses) for the first time on the internet in Arabic within the <.eg> domain name space.

With the adoption of the internationalized domain name developed by i-DNS.net Egypt will become the first country in the Middle East to implement the use of domain name system on a global level to write web addresses in Arabic. This way anyone who wishes to set up an .eg domain name can do so in Arabic. It is also possible for those who have their domain names in English to obtain a corresponding one in Arabic or any other local language.

Wael Nasr, Director of i-DNS.net in the Middle East, announced that the availability of domain names in Arabic language on the Internet would facilitate communications within the Arab countries. As it will also facilitates communications within those that are interested in the Arabic heritage and culture especially that i-DNS technology fully supports the Arabic language because it is able to process the right-to-left text input functionality.

Dr Rafaat Radwan, Head of the Information and Decision Support Center said that with the option to use English and Arabic, anyone and everyone will be able to draw from the incredible storehouse of knowledge and information that exists in the Internet and will definitely make web browsing much easier as well as contribute to the growth of Internet users in our country.

It is worth noting that currently, users are already able to register web addresses ending in <.com>, <.net> and <.org> in Arabic, following i-DNS' commercial partnerships with Internet Egypt and Link-Egypt.
