Egyptian-American Agreement for Internet Sites in Arabic

Egypt, Al Hayat, 25 May 2000 -- An announcement was made yesterday in Cairo of an agreement between Link-Egypt and Internet-Egypt, and American company i-DNS.net that will make it possible for companies and individuals to have their domain names in Arabic on the Internet.

During the press conference, Lo Pang Hee, i-DNS.net Chief Operating Officer said that for the first time in the Arab world, those who speak Arabic and use the Internet will be able to surf it in Arabic. For too long the Internet has been the domain of English speakers.

"People are given now the option of using either English or Arabic, or any other language of their choice. To access a web site like Pyramids.com is to key in the characters It gives the user the power to communicate and do business on the Internet the way he wants to."

The American company specializes in providing multilingual Internet solutions, making it now possible to register Internet domain names in as many as 55 languages. It does not cancel out the web site access in English, but gives companies and individuals another option to possess domain names in their own language.

Wael Nasr, Middle East manager expressed his happiness in starting the implementation of this technology in the Arab world.
