It Is Now Possible to Register for Domain Names in Chinese Language

China, Beijing Economic Daily, 9 October 2000 -- If you had ever wanted to register for "www..com" or @sina.com, now you can. You would no longer need to substitute these with www.tongrentang.com or huanghaichuan@sina.com.

China Channel, a leading registrar of top-level domain names, announced in Beijing recently that an agreement has been reached with i-DNS.net and i-EMAIL.net to empower China Channel the rights to adopt their multilingual i-DNS and i-Email technologies; thereby making the registration of .com, .net and .org TLDs and email addresses in Chinese characters possible. This has made China Channel the first premier ICANN accredited registrar to be able to do so.

Reportedly, the Chinese registrar has started handling global registrations for Chinese TLD names and email addresses that are now readily functional. The Chinese email addresses come with an automatic forwarding function that can forward all email received in the Chinese mailbox to other mailboxes chosen by the user. This product is the world's first to be released by i-EMAIL.net.

Director for China Channel Mr Gong Shaohui said, "China Channel is dedicated to the promotion of China's e-Commerce industry and now cooperates with i-DNS.net International and i-EMAIL.net to provide services for the registration of Chinese domain names and email addresses. The advent of Chinese TLD names and addresses will eliminate the language barrier of the Internet to non-English speakers, and will revolutionalize the operations of small and medium sized companies and the proliferation of emailing in China." CEO of i-DNS.net International Mr Michael Ng expressed that he was happy to be able to cooperate with China Channel. He added, "We have a lot of confidence in our cooperation with China Channel. It is after all a very strong establishment. Having it handle the registration of Chinese TLD names is a great achievement for the global usage of multilingual DNS technology. We believe the technology will truly and actively induce the globalization of the Internet."

"Email is the most popular function of the Internet, with a currency rate of 30 billion per day," said i-EMAIL.net CEO Mr Huang Zhaohui. "The Chinese language is the world's second most commonly used language, and i-EMAIL.net is pleased to be able to work with China Channel to launch Chinese email addresses to better cater to the needs of the Chinese Internet community."
