Melbourne IT Plans To Expand Range Of Web Registry

Asian Wall Street Journal, 6 July 2000 -- Melbourne IT Ltd, an Australian Internet domain name registration company, said it has secured a non-exclusive license to use Singapore-based I-DNS International's technology to register domain names using non-English language characters.

Melbourne IT's registration business, Internet Names WorldWide, plans to use the technology to initially extend its business into the Chinese-language market, but also plans to move eventually into other languages such as Japanese, Arabic, Thai and Tamil.

"Internet Names WorldWide has a unique opportunity to be involved at the early stages of what promises to be a rapid expansion of Internet adoption by the non-English speaking world," said Melbourne IT's general manager, Clive Flory.

Melbourne IT plans to roll out its Chinese service within a month.
